The schedules are printed and out and about in town, the hall has long been booked, the judges have the dates in their diaries and posters are being prepared whilst stewards are being primed. All that’s needed now is a little rain to help the growing process, because if your veggie plot is anything like mine, it’s bone dry.
The classes this year retain the classics such as onions, cabbages, potatoes, heaviest pumpkin etc, etc, but we have an exciting new class for decorative baskets filled with mixed veg and fruit. The cookery section, which is becoming more popular by the year, will feature entries of sausage rolls, muffins, biscuits and much much more. Take a look at our online schedule for full details.
The photography section has four classes this year with three in the handicrafts. There really is something for everyone. But then again if you’re not a competitor you can always come along in the afternoon to view the bountiful produce of Rye and marvel at the ability of local growers.
